'Virtual Coffee Morning' for Macmillan

On the 28 September Macmillan cancer support is holding it’s annual fundraising event – ‘The world’s biggest coffee morning.’ Support for cancer sufferers is a cause very close to my heart. Like so many people I have lost family members to cancer – and thankfully, I have family members who have survived cancer. I also have first hand experience of the disease as around 20 months ago I was diagnosed with a form of Leukaemia known as CML. Since diagnosis I have been on a clinical trial and am extremely lucky, because due to medication and the support I receive from family and friends I am predominantly able to get on with my life without major disruption at the moment. However it’s a long haul and I understand that for cancer sufferers the future is often uncertain…I spend a lot of time in the cancer care unit at my local hospital and see the impact that cancer has on people’s lives  – Thankfully Macmillan is there to provide practical, medical and financial support when cancer gets in the way of life…
… I really want to help to raise as much money as possible for this brilliant cause, but unfortunately I am a terrible cook, so the suggested cake baking isn’t for me. I have therefore decided to play to my strengths as a surface pattern designer and draw instead of bake! You are all therefore invited to my ‘VIRTUAL COFFEE MORNING’ and you don’t need to go anywhere… you can join in from your desks!
The first thing you may notice is that the title of this blog is predominantly a lie! – There is no coffee and the event is going to be open for around a week – so not a ‘morning’ either! (But don’t let that put you off taking part!)
TAKING PART IN THE VIRTUAL COFFEE MORNING IS EASY:
STEP 1) MAKE A MINIMUM DONATION OF £1 ON MY JUSTGIVING PAGE TO BUY YOUR ‘CAKE’.
STEP 2) RIGHT CLICK ON YOUR FAVOURITE CAKE DRAWING FROM BELOW AND SAVE THE FILE TO YOUR DESKTOP.
(OR EMAIL vickyyorkedesigns@yahoo.co.uk WITH THE SUBJECT TITLE ‘CAKES’ AND I WILL EMAIL THE IMAGES TO YOU).
STEP 3) UPLOAD YOUR FAVOURITE CAKE IMAGE TO YOUR FACEBOOK, TWITTER, LINKEDIN ETC. PROFILES TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR MACMILLAN AND HELP TO SPREAD AWARENESS OF THEIR CAUSE.
STEP 4) PASTE LINKS TO THIS PAGE ON SOCIAL MEDIA TO TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT THIS EVENT! IT IS FINE TO FORWARD THESE FILES, BUT THIS WILL ONLY WORK WITH TRUST, SO IF YOU WANT TO DISPLAY THE PICTURES, PLEASE, PLEASE MAKE A DONATION. :)
STEP 5) SIT BACK AND ADMIRE YOUR YUMMY CAKE ON SCREEN… (YOU MAY BE FEELING HUNGRY BY NOW - AND THIS EVENT CAN BE HELD IN CONJUNCTION WITH ACTUAL COFFEE MORNINGS BEING HELD AROUND THE COUNTRY – SO FEEL FREE TO INDULDGE IN THE KNOWLEDGE THAT YOU ARE HELPING THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WITH CANCER) – THANK YOU!

Many thanks to Macmillan for allowing me to use their logo. Images are copyright Vicky Yorke Designs 2012. Images only to be used as described above – Not for commercial use.

30TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS!

It's been a while since my last post, as I've had a very busy month! This is greatly due to the fact that at the beginning of the month I entered my third decade, so the last few weeks have been full of fun and frolics with lots of celebrations! It all began at the end of August with an amazing holiday with my family where we travelled on the Costa Neo Romantica cruise ship stopping at Amsterdam, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Oslo and Le Harvre. We had an amazing time and I have completely fallen in love with Denmark and Norway, so more trips will hopefully be planned soon! Back at home I have been lucky enough to have had a number of birthday parties and a trip to the Peak District where I cycled with some of my oldest friends along the Tissington Trail. It was a beautiful sunny day and I can't think of a better way to celebrate being 30! (The photo of me below was taken by one of my friends as she rode along - great job!)

It's not just been play though, as I have also been getting down to work and am busy with a number of really exciting new projects, which I will look forward to telling you about in the coming months...
